Bancor Sues Uniswap Over Alleged Patent Infringement in DeFi Clash
Bprotocol Foundation, the non-profit behind Bancor, has escalated a legal battle against Uniswap Labs and its foundation, filing a patent infringement lawsuit in the Southern District of New York. The dispute centers on Bancor’s "constant product automated market maker" (CPAMM) technology, which underpins decentralized exchanges by eliminating centralized order books.
Bancor claims it developed the CPAMM system in 2016 and later secured a provisional patent. The lawsuit alleges Uniswap’s unauthorized use of this foundational DeFi infrastructure. This confrontation highlights the intensifying competition for intellectual property in decentralized finance as protocols vie for dominance in automated market Maker (AMM) design.
